"There in 1869 September 26, the adorable idol of the Armenian music, Komidas Vartabed (Soghomon by christening) after he spent his active and lively childhood period playing and singing under Koudina's magnificient atmosphere, in 1881 leaves for Etchmiadzin. From the following cards he sent from Etchmiadzin, on two of them that he has written, the first was dedicated to his mother Zmroukht with unforgetable filial love."

A- Zmroukht (Karakashian) Tashjian, my mother, the documentor of Komidas Vartabed's story, bears the name of my great grandmother Zmroukht who is Marig's mother and Komidas Vartabed's aunt.Komidas Vartabed & my maternal grandmother Marig (Mariam) were breastfed by my great grandmother Zmroukht thus becoming "milk brother & sister".

B - Marig and Hagop Karakashian's children Mkrdich the eldest, Karabed and Zmroukht, were born and christened at the St. Teotoros Church in Koudina (Kotahia). It is in this church that Komidas Vartabed and previously his father Kevork and his uncle Haroutiun, participated every Sunday in the Church Choir and the Holy Mass.
